Neelkanth's zinc oxide is a white powder with wonderful astringent properties. It physically works to provide 28 times the skin's natural protections against harmful uva & uvb rays and has a great soothing effect for use in many skin preparations. It is uncoated and is an inert ingredient, often used to thicken lotions and creams. It works as a mild astringent and topical protectant in skin preparations.

Neelkanth's zinc oxide is utilized in cosmetics such as face powder, baby powders, nursery powders, sunburn preventatives and rouge sticks, furnishing opacity to ultraviolet light and mild deodorant properties.
In pharmaceuticals, zinc oxide is widely used in dermatological applications in the form of ointments and lotions as it is protective, astringent, and nontoxic. Zno zinc oxide may be used in the following preparations as described in the usp/bp/ip : calamine topical suspension, phenolated calamine topical suspension, coal tar ointment, zinc oxide ointment, zinc oxide paste, and zinc oxide and salicylic acid paste.

In coatings on the interior of cans for packing meats, fish and other protein-containing foods, the high reactivity of zinc oxide converts soluble sulfides into white zinc sulfide. This prevents the formation of black tin and iron sulfides that discolor foods and interiors of containers
