Intravenous sedation like oral sedatives also known as “Deep conscious sedation”. Usually, it is used by dentist & Oral surgeons who have specialized training & special certificate by the state Board of dentistry.
By intravenous sedation, medications are administrated directly into patients blood stream. The advantage of IV sedation is that if some one is not sedated enough, administration of more medication is possible & effects are instantaneous.
Drugs given by IV route are more effective than drugs given by oral route. There is more profound amnesia associated with sedation technique. In this sedation patient remain awake & able to respond to commands.
