Contact SupplierThe original form of Nutella was first created in the 1940s by Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a patisserie maker and founder of the Ferrero company. At the time, cocoa was in short supply due to rationing during the Second World War, which meant cocoa beans were not readily available. Pietro Ferrero instead mixed toasted hazelnuts with cocoa butter & vegetable oils to create 'Pasta Gianduja. In 1963, Ferrero's son Michele Ferrero revamped Supercrema with the intention of marketing it across Europe. Its composition was modified and it was renamed "Nutella". The first jar of Nutella left the Ferrero factory in Alba on 20 April 1964. Nutella was first imported from Italy to the U.S. over 25 years ago in 1983 and was initially distributed in the Northeastern part of the country. Nutella is one bread spread that needs no introduction. The iconic chocolate and hazelnut bread spread has captured the imagination of people, the world across. What started as a solution to the depleting supply of chocolates, the hazelnut addition to the chocolate spread proved to be a winning combination resulting in what we today know as Nutella hazelnut spread with cocoa.
