Contact SupplierCitronella oil is an essential oil, very popular for its perfumery, cosmetics, and flavoring qualities all around the world. The oil is derived from leaves, as well as the stems of various types of Cymbopogon. The presence of chemicals like citronellol, citronellal, geraniol, etc. in the citronella oil makes it such a powerful perfumery and flavoring agent. The oil is also used in the manufacturing of products like soap, candles, incense, etc.
It is a great mosquito, and insect repellent, and has been used as a bio-pesticide in many countries. Various studies have proven that citronella oil also contains anti-fungal properties. The oil can calm down a barking dog to other pet animals. There are two varieties of citronella oils available in the market, i.e. Ceylon Citronella oil, and Java Ceylon Oil. Ceylon citronella oil is extracted from Cymbopogon nardus Rendle, and considered to be originated from Sri Lanka.
The major composition of Ceylon citronella oil includes approximately 18 to 20 percent geraniol, 5 to 15 percent citronellal, 6 to 8 percent citronellol, 9 to 11 percent limonene, and 7 to 11 percent methyl isoeugenol. Whereas, in case of Java Ceylon oil, the oil is derived from Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt, it is darker in color and, gives a lemony odor. Both types of oil have their own advantages, but in some cases, the quality of Java Ceylon oil is considered superior than the quality of Ceylon Citronella oil.
