However , in 2013 it was confirmed that the origin of cacao is peruvian . 5,200 years ago , peruvians started cultivating cacao along cajamarca , peru . Nowadays 60 % of cacao varities is made in peru . It is also the second largest producer of organic cacao .
Cacao beans comes from cacao pods , it is widely used as a food ingredient.
cacao beans have a strong dark bitter chocolate flavour. You can eat them whole - plain or dipped into raw honey. Blend them into your favourite smoothies or and them to a trailsnack mix
the skins are edible so you don't need to peel them first.
The recommended daily intake is 5 to 20 whole beans.
