Kem is a new organic immunity builder developed by MBF, it functions implementing a new action mechanism and a strong activity against Lepidoptera along with being selectively protective of useful organisms. Kem acts when consumed or comes under contact. It penetrates the leaf tissues (translaminar activity) and builds up within the leaf. The mechanism of action is unique among the span of immunity builder. In fact, it inhibits muscle contractions, causing a continuous flow of chlorine ions in the GABA and H-Glutamate receptor sites . Kem also promotes antioxidant production in plants which, in turn, reduces “free radicals”. Free radical molecules result in negative situations and events such as drought, heat, ultraviolet light. Free radicals are damaging because they are strong oxidizing agents which damage lipids, proteins and DNA within plants cells. Antioxidants are metabolites and enzymes which seek out free radical molecules and protect plants from being damaged. They include lipid soluble substances like vitamin “E” and beta-carotene and water soluble materials such as vitamin C and various enzymes.
