What is Ostenil?

Ostenil can treat joint paint to increase mobility in the indiviual by injecting the viscoelastic solution into the muscle joint area.

Ingredients:

Sodium hyaluronate from fermentation and sodium chloride, sodium monohydrogenphosphate, sodium dihydrogenphosphate, mannitol and water for injection.

What is in the box?

Sterile pre-filled syringe containing 20mg / 1 x 2.0 ml sodium hyaluronate as an isotonic solution

Is Ostenil safe to use during pregnancy?

Ostenil safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Studies have indicated it is well tolerated by unborn foetuses.

How is OSTENIL administered?

Before use, check the pack has not been tampered with and is still sterile. Break the tamper evident seal and remove the cap before removing any air bubbles from the pre filled syringe.

The product should not be administered with anything that has been sterilised with quarternary ammonium salts.

Inject OSTENIL® into the joint area within a course of 3-5 injections. It is possible to treat multiple joints within the same treatment session. (One injection per week)

What can Ostenil be used for?

Reduce pain and increase mobility in:

• Facet joints of the lumbar spine
• Saddle joint of the thumb, by improving pinch and grip strength.
• Interphalangeal joints of the fingers and toes
• The proximal joint of the big toe and the temporomandibular joint, by improving bite and jaw opening.
• Decreasing pain in chronic lower back

How does OSTENIL work?

OSTENIL is a clear medicine which contains hyaluronate, a pure animal free substance that is completely biocompatible and imitates the lubricant in the joint. In osteoarthritis, the synovial fluid at the knee joint is much less with no lubrication. This makes the joints largely susceptible to any pain as there is no barrier to cushion the bones. The hyaluronate reduces the pressure on the knee joint allowing it to move freely without pain.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance found inside the human body. It's key properties are to act as a shock absorber. HA naturally breaks down in the body during metabolism and is then replaced. However as we get older and our metabolism slows down, replacement of HA is less often which results in less viscoelasticity, resulting in breakdown of the bone and pain as it grinds against the skin.

The antioxidant (Mannitol) plays an important role to eliminate the distressing effects of free radicals on the skin dermis, whilst stopping any gel degradation from occurring and the risk of post-injection inflammation.

How long will Ostenil provide pain relief?

The treatment can last for 12 months.
