Dosage

Usual Adult Dose for
Labor Augmentation Initial dose: 0.5 to 1 milliunits/minute via IV infusion
Usual Adult Dose for Abortion 10 units in 500 ml IV infusion, odjust rate to assist uterus in contraction

Indications

Used to begin or improve contractions during labor.
To control postpartum bleeding and haemorrhage.
Postoperative contraction of the uterus following
Cesarean section and control of uterine hemorrhage.
Postpartum evacuation of uterine debris.
To accelerate abortion especially in third trimester used along with prostaglandins.
