PATCHWORK OVERDYED CARPET

Each carpet is at least 50 years old and all handmade. The process involves the collection of unique or damaged carpets from Anatolia, Turkey, which are then put through a series of washes to extract most of the colour. The carpet is then re-dyed using natural pigments and washed again. The finished effect after over-dying is unique to each carpet. The dye reacts differently depending on the original fibres. What makes them so beautiful is that the original pattern remains, still retaining the essence of its original design, with the over-dyed effect creating a solid colour with dimension. An old traditional carpet has now been given a new lease on life and has become a contemporary work of art.
