Contact SupplierThe term "tabasco" refers to a state in Mexico. Like the Naga Jolokia, the tabasco pepper is a variety of the chilli pepper species Capsicum frutescens. It is a very hot pepper that is primarily grown in Mexico and the Gulf Coast states. It is primarily recognised as the pepper used to make Tabasco sauce, a very well-known hot sauce. Next to the jalapeno pepper, it is one of the most well-known peppers. The fruit is tapered and typically does not exceed two inches in length. Normally, the hue ranges from creamy yellow to red, turning yellow and orange before maturing to a vivid, bright red. I picked these pods from my own garden, so you can see the gorgeous colours.
Tabasco peppers range in heat from 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale. Growing ofÂ
Although smaller plants are more typical, tabasco pepper plants can grow up to 5 feet tall (60 inches/1.5 m). They are extremely productive plants that can hold a lot of pepper pods at once. The peppers begin green, turn yellow green as they ripen, and finally turn vibrant red and bright orange. Peppers can typically be harvested 80 days after they first sprout. They thrive in soil with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5, well-drained conditions, and temperatures above 75°F (24°C). They, like the majority of chilli pepper plants, have a low tolerance for frost. JGBC is offeringÂ
