Contact SupplierPeridot Gemstone (Hardness of 6.50)
Peridot, the birthstone for August, is generally found in fresh lime green color and the interesting fact is that its color is an integral part of its structure and the science of light plays no part in its iridescence.
Peridot is found in the metamorphic rocks created by volcanoes. Peridot is formed deep within the earth under tremendous heat and pressure Today most Peridot is mined, often by hand, by Native Americans on the San Carlos Reservation in Arizona. Other places where Peridots are found are Burma, China, and Pakistan. Most beautiful peridots are found from Burma and Pakistan. However now mostly peridot in market are from China. Bigger sizes i.e 10 carat and up are rare and quite expenses. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Square, Octogun, Cushion, Checker Boards, Buff Tops, Cabs etc.
As the color forms an integral part of the stone, so it displays no change in color with respect to change in angle or change in the amount of light. Peridots are used in earrings, necklaces, and other types of jewelry.
