Perlite Description

PERLITE is a volcanic glass that has many applications, including:

·         Construction

Perlite is used in lightweight building materials, such as concrete, as a fire retardant and thermo-acoustic insulator. It can also be used in refractory bricks, mortars, and pipe insulation. 

·         Agriculture

Perlite is mixed with peat to create a soil amendment that improves plant growth and resistance to disease, insects, and environmental stress. Perlite's ability to retain water and air pockets helps plant roots function properly. 

·         Cosmetics

Perlite is used in body and face scrubs as an eco-friendly alternative to microbeads. 

·         Filters

Perlite is used as a filter media for pharmaceuticals, food products, chemicals, and water. 

·         Abrasives

Perlite is used as an abrasive in soaps, cleaners, and polishes. 

·         Paints and varnishes

Perlite is used as a matting agent in paints and to provide matting and transparency in varnishes. 

Perlite is a lightweight, non-corrosive, non-conductor of electricity, odorless, non-abrasive, acid resistant, chemically inert, and reflective material. It's also resistant to heat penetration and has high thermal insulation. 

Perlite is currently used in commercial pool filtration technology, as a replacement to diatomaceous earth filters.
