    Petrified wood is ancient wood that is fossilized when it is buried in sediments and chemically replaced by carbon, calcite, and or silica. The best qualities usually have a high silica (SiO2) content take makes them after more suitable for cutting and polishing. Petrified wood comes primarily from Northern Arizona, but I supply many varieties from other locations. Private lands are usually the only sources left in the USA to collect or mine commercially anymore.
