Polycarbonate Rod

Polycarbonate rod offers incredible impact resistance, great thermal properties and is UV stabilized. Polycarbonate rod was invented by General Electric Plastics (now Sabic Polymershapes) and sold under the brand name Lexan. Other trade names for polycarbonate rod are Makrolon (formerly Hyzod), Tuffak, Palsun. and Ultratuf. Polycarbonate rod is used in many applications including glazing, security partitions, signs, and machine guards. Polycarbonate rod is available as general purpose grade in clear, white, bronze, gray and black. It is available with textured finishes, matte, non-glare, pebble, and others. Polycarbonate rod is also available in UV capped grade for enhanced UV protection. UV polycarbonate rod is readily available in clear, white, bronze, gray as well as limited sign colors. Polycarbonate rod is also available in FDA grade for applications involving direct contact with food, note general purpose polycarbonate rod is not FDA compliant for direct food contact. Other grades of polycarbonate rod include AR an abrasion resistant rod, laminated rod for bullet resistance and enhanced security protection, Machine grade and window grade for heavy gauge machining and sight lenses, and Optical grade for critical optical applications.
