Polymyxin B Injection

Polymyxin B Injection is used for reducing the development of drug-resistant bacteria. It also helps in maintaining the effectiveness of Polymyxin and other antibacterial drugs. Polymyxin B Injection is used for treating or preventing infections caused by bacteria. Indications :

• Pseudomonal infections : Infections of urinary tract, meninges & bloodstream infections caused due to P. aeruginosa.

• Serious infections from H. influenzae, E. coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Dosage :

• IV :

  • Adult & Children : 25,000 units/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours.

  • Infants : Upto 25,000 units/kg/day (Intrathecal).

• IM :

  • Adult & Children : 25,000–30,000 units/kg daily administered in divided doses at 4 to 6 hour intervals.

  • Infants : Up to 40,000 units/kg daily.

Intrathecal Dose incase of P. aeruginosa meningitis.
