The black pomfret, Parastromateus niger, is a species of carangid native to reefs of the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. This species grows to 75 cm (30 in) in total length and is very important to local commercial fisheries. The Black Pomfret is known as the cheaper cousin of the usual Silver Pomfret because of its slightly more “fishy” taste smell.
