Potassium cyanide, potassium cyanide is the name of a colorless chemical compound with the formula of potassium KNC. It smells like almonds smell, appearance is just like sugar and soluble in water. As one of the few substances capable of creating complex of gold (Au) was dissolved in water, so it is used in jewelry for plated or polished by chemical method. Sometimes it is also used in gold mining to separate gold from gold ore (although sodium cyanide is used more commonly). Until the 1970s, it is also used in rat poison.
