Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the formula koh. Along with sodium hydroxide, this colourless solid is a prototypical "strong base". It has many industrial and niche applications. Approximately 100 times more naoh than koh is produced annually. Although more expensive than using sodium hydroxide, koh delivers a higher kinetic and volumetric performance, ie higher efficiency, during the manufacture of biodiesel via transesterification of vegetable oil and the resultant glycerol, of which, remains liquid under a wide temperature range.
