Proscare 5mg tablets are a prescription medication containing finasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. They are primarily used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by shrinking an enlarged prostate, improving urinary flow, and are also used off-label to treat male pattern baldness.

Manages BPH (enlarged prostate) symptoms like difficulty urinating and frequent urination, and prevents hair loss in men by blocking the hormones that cause balding.

Inhibits the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is responsible for both prostate growth and hair follicle shrinkage.

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must not take or handle these tablets. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin and cause severe birth defects in male babies.

 While generally well-tolerated, potential side effects include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders.
