Nitrogen can be produced  onsite by separating oxygen & nitrogen in air using PSA process. The PSA nitrogen generation system consist of 2 parts - Dry Air System where dry & oil free compressedair is produced by filters & dryer and the other is the PSA system where Nitrogen is produced and stores. In the PSA system, dry & oil free compresses air is passed through a bed of Carbon Molecular Sieves(CMS) which has a [ro[erty of very high degree affinity to oxygen resulting in its retention. Nitrogen is thus released as product gas. When the bed reaches the end of its capacity to absorb oxygen, it can be regenerated by reducing the pressure, thereby releasing the adsorbed oxygen. It is then ready for another cycle of producing nitrogen from air.There are two adsorbersfilled with CSM with one inproduction cycle while the other regenerated by depressurization. The two adsorbers are switched from adsorption to desorption automatically.
