What Is Smoke Density & Visibility Testing?
Smoke density testing evaluates the specific optical density (Ds) of smoke produced when a material burns under controlled conditions. Reduced visibility due to smoke is a major hazard in trains and metros during fire accidents. EN 45545-2 mandates that materials used in railway interiors must not generate excessive smoke that impairs visibility and evacuation.
