Its components are made of the same building blocks which wild coral and living reef rock are composed of. The ingredients are not taken from the ocean and as a result there is zero environmental impact to the world's coral reefs or marine habitat. The product is also grown here in the U.S. in closed systems, which also avoids additional environmental impact to the ocean environment via mariculture or ocean farming. "Real Reef" Live Rock does not harbor nuisance or parasitic algaes, inverts and unwanted hitch hikers. Wild live rock inherently is covered and impregnated with undesirable pests and decaying organic matter. In most cases wild live rock is not alive, as it died crossing the Pacific by boat. "Real Reef" offers the aquarist a clean biologically active rock, which mitigates all the issues of wild live rock, including the process of waiting for the death to subside, AKA curing. "Real Reef" Rock is our standard reef building rock. It is very light, porous and full of holes and crevices. It is three dimensional in shape and comes in many natural shades of purple, pink and red. It replicates the look, feel and function of coralline encrusted coral skeleton rock. It’s made from all natural reef eco friendly materials and grown in greenhouses to become a bio-active rock, without the nuisance pests and hitch hikers commonly found on wild rock. This rock is great for Marine Reef and Fish only aquariums. Not suggested for Freshwater, as it holds a high stable pH. "Real Reef" Live Rock is for both the beginner through the expert aquarist. Easily maintained, "Real Reef" Live Rock requires moderate lighting and also a moderate level of water movement. The chemistry required to keep live rock doing well are the same as any other live rock. The addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements will help grow and maintain coralline algae growth. "Real Reef" rock is sold in 25 pound boxes. Your "Real Reef" Live Rock will arrive with sizes between 5 and 16 inches. We recommend between 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 pounds per gallon for a beautifully aquascaped aquarium.
