CPAP, BiPAP, and Non-invasive Ventilator machines are available for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. These products are prescribed by physicians for patients who have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). After having a sleep study, patients with sleep disorders often have these products prescribed to help prevent sleep apnea due to an obstruction. The pressure for these machines, and whether the patient needs a CPAP or a BiPAP machine is determined from a sleep study.
Sleep studies have traditionally been done in a sleep laboratory requiring the patient to spend the night in the lab. Technicians monitor the patients stage of sleep, vital signs, and apneas as the study progresses. If appropriate, the technician will apply a CPAP or BiPAP machine to prevent apneas (andor snoring) if they occur. The technician will increase or decrease the pressure of the machine to achieve optimum benefit for the patient to prevent snoring andor apneas.
Recent advancements in technology now allow sleep studies to be performed in the comfort and privacy of you own home, with the results sent automatically to your doctors office.
