Working :
Reverse Osmosis Filtration Plant involves the reversal of flow through a membrane from a high salinity, or concentrated solution to the high purity, or permeate stream on the opposite side of the membrane. Here, pressure is used as the driving force for the separation. The applied pressure (P) must be in excess of the osmotic pressure of the dissolved contaminants to allow flow across the membrane. The RO membrane of the plant acts as a barrier to all dissolved solids and inorganic molecules with a molecular weight greater than approximately 100. Water molecules, on the other hand, pass freely through the membrane creating a purified product stream. Rejection of dissolved salts is typically 95% to 99%.
