Ruby Gemstone ( Hardness of 9.0)
    Ruby
named from the Latin word for its hue, ruby is the epitome of the boldest of colors: the gem of desire, passion, courage, and emotion. Its value can be gauged from the fact that in the ancient language of Sanskrit it is called Ratnaraj, or "the king of precious stonesâ€.
Generally a certain color tone is associated with different country's mines: Myanmar, with pure red ones, Vietnam with vivid pinkish rubies with exceptional clarity, Sri Lanka with more pastel softer pinkish reds, Thailand with dark red to burgundy, Kenya with translucent stones with juicy pure reds, Madagascar with pure transparent reds.
Heating plays a vital role in the polishing of rubies and leads to enhancement in the shade. This stone is one of the most valuable gem stones in the entire world. The term “Pigeon Blood†has originated in Burma. The local people referred to the finest hue of ruby as “Pigeon's Blood" (ko-twe) although the term may be of Chinese origin. It is said that the color of the Ruby which is Pigeon Blood Red is comparable to the first two drops of blood from the nose of a killed pigeon. Some have compared this color to the center of a live pigeon's eye. However is to see a “Pigeon Blood Ruby is like seeing the face of Godâ€. Bigger size (3 carat up ) , gem quality , unheated rubies are really very very rare and can value many times that of Diamond value of same size. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes (Usually Below 5 Carats) in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Square, Octogun, Cushion etc.
