Senna is an herb, the leaves and the fruit of the plant are widely used to make natural medicine. Senna contains many chemicals called sennosides. Sennosides irritate the lining of the bowel, which causes a laxative effect. Senna was first used by Arabian physicians as far back as the 9th century AD. Senna is often sold as an herbal supplement. Senna is usually found in wild, but they have been extensively cultivated recently. It grows in September after the autumn rains and in April. It grows in parts of Sudan and in some Arabian countries. The best Senna is distinguished by a bright yellowish-green color of the leaves with a faint odor resembling the smell of green tea and a bittersweet taste.
