A power inverter, or solar inverter, is an electronic device or circuitry that changes direct current to alternating current. i.e Inverter Convert DC to AC. Circuitry that performs the opposite function, converting AC to DC, is called a rectifier. The inverter does not produce any power; the power is provided by the DC source.

Solar inverter or PV inverter, is a electrical converter which converts the variable direct current output of a photovoltaic solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current that can be send into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network.

Solar power inverters have special functions adapted for use with photovoltaic arrays, including maximum power point tracking and anti-islanding protection. The input voltage, output voltage and frequency, and overall power handling depend on the design of the specific device or circuitry.

Inverters is a major device in any solar energy system, whether it’s a 2-kW residential system or a 50-MW utility power plant. There are three main types of solar power Inverter :

1. On-grid Solar Inverter - also known as a grid-tie or grid-feed solar inverter.

2. Off-grid Solar Inverter - also known as a stand-alone power inverter .

3. Hybrid Solar Inverter - solar plus battery storage inverter with grid-connection.
