Spider Coupling

At Aurora Custom Machining, we are known as experts at manufacturing wear components from high-grade irons. This is the reason a customer asked us to manufacture close grain iron spider couplings for them, which were wear components of rock crushers used in the mining industry. These heavy duty systems are designed to reduce large rocks to smaller rocks, gravel, or dust. A CNC Okuma V80 vertical lathe and a YCM TV1588 vertical milling machine was used to turn, mill, drill, and tap the coupling casting, which was made from CL501 close grain iron. Following deburring, our team performed dimensional and visual inspections to verify we met the precise tolerances specified by the customer of ±0.002”. We worked from a 2D CAD drawing to manufacture these 421-lb., 11.161” high couplings, whose outside diameters were 27.953”. Our staff manufactured 28 of the spider couplings in only two weeks for delivery to the customer in Illinois.
