Spline Shaft

A spline shaft is one that has equally spaced teeth around the cylindrical surface of the shaft, which are parallel to the shafts axis of rotation. Generally these shafts can transmit much more torques than any other shaft. These spline types can be parallel key spline, involute spline, crowned spline, serrations and helical spline.
The advantages of using spline shaft are different types of spline tooth forms allow for stronger drives, the load is equally distributed along the sides of the teeth, it has an ability to accommodate large axial movements between shaft and hub while simultaneously transmitting torque and in helical spline drive the transfer of axial and rotary motion at the same time.
Spline shafts are widely used in various industries like automobile industries, textile machinery, sugar industries, printing machinery, earth moving equipments,machine tools, mining machines, cement plants, sponge iron plants, and many more applications. Some of the material used in spline shaft is carbon steel, alloy steel, mild steel, cast iron and brass.
