kopsulizole (ensulizole : phenylbenzimidazolesulphonic acid- pbsa) is a highly effective uv b filter which forms water soluble salts with the addition of base. Meets usp-29 monograph for ensulizole usp. Pbsa is practically odorless, has excellent stability and dermatologically tested. In usa usage level of pbsa is up to 4% depending on the protection desired. In eu countries it can be used at concentration level as high as 8%. Significant synergy of pbsa with other sunscreen brings about considerable increase in sun protection factor. Therefore sunscreens can be formulated using low concentration of other uv filters with pbsa.
