The Grant temperature gradient plate is a highly efficient bi-directional temperature gradient system for investigating responses to temperature of seeds, small plants and animals, micro-organisms or any small component or material. The design is based on the fact that a temperature gradient results if one edge of a square aluminum plate is heated and the opposite edge is cooled.
Â
The gradient runs in one direction for part of the 24 hour cycle and is then automatically switched to run at a right angle to its original direction for the remainder of the cycle, to provide all possible combinations of minimum and maximum temperature. Specialist lighthoods can also be supplied.
Â
An integral Grant Squirrel data logger provides time/temperature data from five temperature sensors located under the plate.
Â
The units have been supplied to Kew Gardens Millennium Seedbank, Germain's Seeds, British Antarctic Survey and Grassland Research.
