Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) is an antiviral medication used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and HIV-1 infectionn combination with other antiretroviral agents. It is a prodrug of tenofovir that delivers the active drug more efficiently to target cells, allowing for lower doses and reduced kidney and bone toxicitycompared to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). TAF works by inhibiting viral reverse transcriptase, preventing viral replication. It is commonly found in combination therapies such as Descovy(for HIV) and Vemlidy(for HBV).
