Chemical Constituent

Terminalia's active constituents include tannins, cardenolide, triterpenoid saponins (arjunic acid, arjunolic acid, arjungenin, arjun glycosides), flavonoids (arjunone, arjunolone,luteolin), gallic acid, ellagic acid, oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), phytosterols, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and copper. A glycoside arjunetin has recently been isolated from the bark and enlarged the list of glycosides found in this tree. Arjuna also contains coenzyme Q10.

Uses

• Used to cure dysentery and earache.
• Arjuna helps in maintaining the cholesterol level at the normal rate
• Treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure, edema, and hypercholesterolemia
• Treatment of Asthma.
• Protect against DNA damage from toxins.
• Its leaves have been shown to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
