Timber bolts are sometimes called mushroom head bolts, safety head bolts, fender head bolts, dome head bolts, or economy bolts. The underside of the low-profile and rounded head of timber bolts has two fins or nubs, the purpose of which is to prevent the bolt from turning in the timber. The oversized timber bolt head has eliminated the need for a malleable iron washer.
