Sodium Heparin: This tube contains sodium heparin used for the collection of heparinized plasma or whole blood for special tests. NOTE: After the tube has been filled with blood, immediately invert the tube 8-10 times to mix and ensure adequate anticoagulation of the specimen.

Vacuum tubes may contain additives designed to stabilize and preserve the specimen prior to analytical testing. Tubes are available with a safety-engineered stopper, with a variety of labelling options and draw volumes. The color of the top indicates the additives in the vial.
