It is prepared by adding concentrated Sulphuric acid to castor oil at 25-30°C for several hours, followed by washing and neutralizing with sodium hydroxide solution. Uses :

Formulating lubricants, softeners, and dyeing assistants.
Active wetting agent, used in dyeing and in finishing of cotton and linen
