Infrared (IR) is the electromagnetic radiation that has a wave length longer than visible light but shorter than visible light but shorter than microwave radiation. IR wavelengths are between 760nm (0.76µ) and 1m and can be further divided into short wave infrared, medium wave infrared and long wave infrared. Shortwave radiation penetrates more and ensures uniform heating. To achieve efficiency in heating it is recommended that the lamp should correspond to the absorption characteristic of the product being heated. A part of the infrared radiation spectrum is reflected from the surface of the object being heated. And the rest is either absorbed by the object or passes through the object.
