Contact SupplierA U-shape modular kitchen spans three walls, providing 40 to 60 percent more storage than an L-shape layout in the same floor area. This layout suits 3BHK and 4BHK apartments, builder floors, and independent houses in Gurgaon where the kitchen has a minimum width of 7 feet and one open side for entry.
WoodAge Interiors builds U-shape kitchens at our CNC-equipped factory in DLF, Gurugram. The three-wall configuration allows dedicated functional zones. The cooking zone with hob and chimney sits on one wall. The washing zone with sink sits on the adjacent wall. The third wall holds a tall pantry unit, additional storage, and prep counter space. This zoning reduces unnecessary walking during cooking.
A U-shape layout has two internal corners. Both corners require a solution to prevent dead space. We fit each corner with either a magic corner, a carousel, or a Le-Mans system depending on the cabinet width. The hardware for these corner solutions comes from Hettich or Hafele.
Material specifications remain consistent with all WoodAge kitchens. Base cabinets use BWP plywood IS 710. Shutters are laminate, acrylic, PU paint, or veneer. Edge banding is 2mm PVC on all panel edges, including internal surfaces. The CNC cutting ensures that the three separate wall runs align perfectly when installed, creating a seamless look along the countertop.
This layout is common in older DLF builder floors, independent houses in South Delhi, and villas along the Southern Peripheral Road where kitchen sizes are typically 10x10 feet or larger.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is the minimum kitchen size required for a U-shape layout?A: A U-shape kitchen needs a minimum width of 7 feet and a length of 8 feet. This allows for 2 feet of countertop depth on each opposing wall and at least 3 feet of clear walking space in the center. Anything narrower than 7 feet will make the center corridor feel cramped.
Q: U-shape versus island kitchen, which provides more storage?A: A U-shape layout with a tall pantry unit typically provides more enclosed cabinet storage than an island layout. An island adds open countertop space for prep work or seating, but the storage underneath is limited to standard base cabinet depth. If your priority is maximum hidden storage, U-shape is the better choice.
