Perlite has got a tendency to exfoliate on temperature above 800 0C. Thus it will expand when it comes into contact with the liquid metal, forming a light weight viscous accumulation. This accumulation attracts all individual slag particles. This slag accumulation floats over the surface of liquid metal and can be easily removed.
