Virgin Polymers

The polymers are macromolecules produced by the union of thousands of small molecules of monomers in a great chains of diverse forms.
Most of the things that we use and coexist with every day, are derived from the polymers in their various applications. Some of them are;
• Plastic materials
• Gums and elastomers
• Fibers (nylon)
• Surface Coatings
• Adhesives among others
Most of the polymers are materials derived of petroleum whose the properties and applications are very varied.
Some sources indicate that 90% of molecules for polymers come from petroleum.
It is estimated that a barrel of oil produces only 3.3% of the raw material required to produce the monomers from which the polymers are derived for various applications, such as;
• Polystyrene (PS)
• Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
• Polyethylene (PE) (HDPE or LDPE, high and low density)
• Polypropylene (PP)
• Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
• Polyurethane (PU) among others.
