Cyclopentolate HCL

• A parasympatholytic drug which paralyses the sphincter muscle of the iris, thus causing pupillary dilation
• Also paralyses the ciliary muscle, thus causing paralysis of accommodation
• Preferred over atropine because of shorter duration of mydriasis and cycloplegia when used for opthalmologic examination
• The maximum effect is produced in 30 – 60 minutes after instillation; recovery of accommodation occurs within 24 hours

• Pupil construction possible quickly with pilocarpine
