Welded H Beam

The three components (or 4 in the case of box girders), namely the top flange, the web plate and the bottom flanges may be different sizes, thicknesses and grades, which allows the designer to create a plate girder that specifically meets their needs and minimises material usage, e.g. asymmetric beams with wide bottom flanges can be designed to carry concrete slabs. Beams can be designed with pre-camber, varying depth, varying width and varying load carrying capabilities along the length of the beam.
