Windmill Blades

A wind turbine converts wind’s kinetic energy into electrical power. Since centuries people have been using windmills to pump water or grind grain. After World War I, people realised that electricity could be produced from Wind energy and thus began work to develop wind turbines that could produce electricity.
With the growing demand for energy and more importantly a sustainable one, Wind energy is gaining importance. Wind Energy is one of the environment friendly methods of power generation as it does not create air pollution. However, until recently, fibre-reinforced plastic, which is not considered very environment friendly, was used for the blades. A newly conducted research shows that stainless steel blades for wind turbine are a cheap yet reliable alternative to plastic blades.
