there are three main types of cutters based on the work-fields:
1. Bolt cutters:
bolt cutters are used in heavy industries as cutting tools for cutting thick materials. They can be used from general purpose to heavy duty cutting for cutting rods, heavy steel wires, metal bolts, nails, screws, case hardened chains.
bolt cutters usually are made of smaller jaws or cutting blades and have longer handles, connected with hinges. On compression of handles, these hinges maximize force applied on jaws by increasing leverage. This enables the user to cut through thick and rigid materials relatively easily. These cutters have adjustable screws for adjusting amount of closure of handles, for blades to make contact with each other.

2. Wire cutters:
wire cutters are used specifically for purpose of cutting wire. These also known as snips or diagonal pliers, as are very similar to pliers.
the most noteworthy difference between wire cutters and pliers is that instead of grips as in pliers, these have sharpened edges, which assists in cutting through wire. More big and heavier the cutter, more heavier would the wire gauge it can handle.
these cutters are available in standard size of 300mm having cutting length if 2,5mm.
3. Cable cutters:
cable cutters are used mainly in cuttinginsulated copper and aluminium cable of various diameters. Jaws of cable cutters make it possible to cut through the cable without causing any major distortion to the internal wires. These cutters have strong tubular handles with p.v.c comfort grip, which enables its users to cut through the cable with ease.
these cutters are available in sizes ranging from 14"- 42" having cutting length in range from 9-50mm.
