    Y Strainers

Y Strainers sizes ¼" to 20", constructed of cast iron, bronze, carbon steel, stainless steel CPVC, PVC, polypropylene, PTFE and PVDF - threaded, flanged socket weld and tri-clamp connections.

Y strainers are typically used in applications where the amount of solids to be removed is small, and where frequent clean-out is not required. They are most often installed in gaseous services such as steam, air, nitrogen, natural gas, etc. The compact, cylindrical shape of the Y strainer is very strong and can readily accommodate the high pressures that are common in this type of service. Pressures up to 6000 PSI are not unusual. When steam is being handled, high temperature can be an additional complicating factor. A steam pressure of 1500 PSI will often be found at temperatures of 1000°F. The strength of the standard Factory Direct Pipeline Products Y strainer design can easily accommodate these extreme parameters although the material of construction will probably be an alloy steel.

A Y strainer has the advantage of being able to be installed in either a horizontal or vertical position. However, in both cases, the screening element or "leg" must be on the "downside" of the strainer body so the entrapped solids can be properly collected and held for disposal.

There is a tendency to trivialize quality, particularly when price becomes a dominant consideration. What this design consideration amounts to in non-critical, light duty applications is an extra element of safety, as well as longer, more dependable service. We extend our preoccupation with quality to each screen that is supplied with TSF Y strainers. It should not come as a surprise to learn that those Y strainers, whose bodies are trimmed to a bare minimum for cost reasons, are equipped with screens that lack structural integrity and are poorly seated and sealed. Our heavy duty Model TSF Y strainers are furnished with high quality stainless steel screens that are carefully fabricated to fit the strainer body perfectly. This, coupled with the precision machined screen seat on the body of the strainer, protects against any bypass. Our offered Model TSF  Heavy Duty Y Strainers are available in iron, bronze, carbon steel or stainless steel for pipeline sizes from 1/4" to 10", with threaded, flanged, or socket weld connections.

Our range of Y Strainers are heavy duty and designed for aggressive industrial and commercial applications. There are simply no higher quality Y strainers available at any cost. Quality of a relatively simple Y strainer is an important consideration for the typical operational parameters associated with steam and gas applications especially for extremely high temperatures and high pressure applications. A Y strainer is a pressure vessel; its wall thickness can be analyzed and evaluated by different applicable standards. Every TSF Y strainer is designed to stand up the most demanding applications.
