Q. How Does An Offset Printing Machine Work?

An offset printing machine works on the principle of water and oil separation. This process is commonly known as the lithography process. The printing technique used in this machine is known as ‘offset” as it does not allow ink to transfer directly onto the paper, unlike other printing techniques. The machine allows the ink to transfer first to a rubber cylinder and then to the paper to print.

In this printing process, the plates of the machine are treated to make no-image areas attract water-repelling the ink and image portions attract the ink. When the ink and water are applied on the plate by the rollers, the water sticks to the non-image portion, and the ink which is oil-based sticks to the image portion producing clear, glossy, and sharp quality of printing.
