RCPT – Rapid Chloride Penetration Test It is also known as Durability Equipment For Concrete Rapid Chloride Penetration Test (RCPT) as per ASTM C.1202-09
This test method consists of monitoring the amount of electric current passed through 50mm thick slices of 102mm nominal diameter cores or cylinders during 6 Hr period. A potential difference of 60V DC is maintained across the ends of the specimen one of which is immersed in a sodium chloride solution, other in sodium hydroxide solution. The total charge passed, in coulombs, has been found to be related to the resistance of the specimen to chloride ion penetration.
At INSWAC, we have developed the instrument in such a way that (1) Four Samples can be tested at a time (2) Voltage Application and data read out Apparatus can be used to perform the Accelerated Corrosion Test.

Instrument consists of

• Voltage Application and Data read out Apparatus
  • Power source capable of holding 60 ± 0.1V across applied voltage cell over entire range of currents, with digital(DVM) minimum 0- 99.9 V range rated accurately to ±0.1%
  • Constant Voltage power supply 0-80V DC, 0-2 A capable of holding Voltage constant at 60 ± 0.1V. Timer with burner is fitted on Data read out apparatus so that laymen will e able to note down the readings, at the fixed interval.
  • 4 sets (each of two) 1.6mm insulated 600V cable conductor

• 4 sets of Applied Voltage cell.
  • Each set of cell consists of two symmetric Poly (methyl methacrylate) chambers, each containing electrically conductive mesh and external connector.
  • 4 sets (each set contains 2) rubber gaskets capable of sealing concrete to Poly (methyl methacrylate) cell.

For Accelerated Corrosion Test

• 4 sets of cell consists of
  • 4 No’s of Copper rod as Cathode.
  • 4 No’s of Steel rod as Anode.
  • 4 No’s Poly methyl methylacralate tank

• 4 No’s of mould (100 ø X 200 L ) with necessary attachment for making  100ø X50L mould also.
  • Electronic Weigh Scale 5 Kg capacity with 1mg accuracy.

• Optimum Performance with 150 kg of Concrete load to be operated with the following parameter.
  • Temp – 20^oC to 60^oC.
  • Humidity 40% to 80% RH
  • CO2 Concentration – 0 to 5%

Above parameters will be automatically controlled by control panel, keypad type.
Chamber will be Airtight with front door opening.

Chamber construction will be sandwich type

• Outer powder coated mild steel plate.

• Insulation will be sandwich between this two chambers to get maximum efficiency.

CO2 cylinder 25 kg capacity with suitable regulator and rubber hose pipe – 5mts long for CO2 supply.

• It is suitable to carry out the test up to M200 grade concrete with reinforce cement 6mm ø to 15mmø
• It will have hydraulic Jack hand operated with separate pumping unit.
• The pumping unit would be connected to the hydraulic jack by means of a flexible connecting pipe 3 meter long.

• The instrument is developed as originally described as Alexander, Ballim & Machechnnie ( Dept of Civil Engineering, University of Cape Town & University of Witwatersand)
• The test is suitable for the evaluation of materials and mix proportion for design purpose and for research and development .

Instrument Contains

• Permeability cell of S.S.304 having capacity  Volume 5 litre ± 5% --- 4 Nos
• Compressible Rubber collar of silicon rubber to have a tight fit around the specimen to eliminate any leakage of oxygen except through the pores of the specimen.
• Rigid sleeve to house rubber collar – 4 nos
• Pressure Transducers, with an accuracy of 0.5 KPa.
• Standard grade 99.8 % oxygen cylinder with regulator capable of regulating pressure to 120 KPa
• Digital Vernier caliper of reading 0.01mm
• Direct read out system such that pressure reading recorded in memory card at 15 min interval upto 6hrs.
• Desiccator to hold 8 samples, containing silicagel as desiccant.
