With advancing age , people and building (even 2 floors)need lifts . Since the building was initially not designed for lift , it need to be modified for supporting the lift, creating landings whether lift is to run in he building or outside , visibilty in the lift , privacy , application and image during selection .Then the cost analysis is done and even here the customer is assisted in choosing a best value products.
Many old lifts with 20-30 years of service are often scrapped when new, better , faster lifts with latest amenities are installed.
Modernization is a process by which the old lift is stripped and while the metal frame (if good) is retained , the cabin, doors , machine , electrical system is put in new and in a short time the old lift is converted to a new and reliable lift.
Hydraulic lifts are especially suited for retrofitting because they need only wall support for the lift and the load is always transferred to the pit.
