Precision machining of componentsThe prime function of a Rotary Valve is to regulate the flow of dust, powder and granular products from one chamber to another whilst maintaining a good airlock. In the dust filtration field a good airlock is essential on cyclone and bag filter applications in order that the manufacturers quoted high dust collection efficiencies can be maintained. Airlocks are also important in the pneumatic conveying industry, where product is regulated into a pressure or vacuum conveying line while minimising air leakage. With Rotolok there are no double standards, all our standard valves are precision machined for close tolerances and minimal eccentricities. Pressure differentials to 20psi and temperatures to 400C (752F) are considered the norm and extreme pressures and temperatures can be accommodated with special designs. In February 2018, Rotolok gained approval and certification from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to supply Rotary Valves for use in the dairy, food and chemical industries in the United States. Rotoloks USDA Dairy Accepted line of Rotary Valves are designed for use in sanitary applications in the food, dairy, pharmaceutical and chemical industries where regular cleaning is required to prevent product contamination. The product contact surfaces of the valve are manufactured in 316 Stainless Steel and polished to a 150 grit finish, ensuring that there are no lodgement points allowing the product to flow smoothly. Furthermore, the valve is equipped with a slide rail mechanism allowing for the quick and easy removal of the rotor from the valve body. This addition substantially reduces the amount of downtime and the number of man hours required for the cleaning and maintenance of the rotor and valve internals. These valves have been engineered and designed solely as a low cost alternative for applications with pressure differentials of 3 psi or less. Available in 150, 200, 250 and 300mm round and square inlet sizes.

The granule type of product, especially if it is a plastic type, polythene or nylon etc., does not shear easily and consequently, without considerable care the standard drop-through type of valve leads to valve seizure and also considerable shock loadings. To minimize these problems the Offset Rotary Valve ensures lower pocket fillage as its design means that the rotor is still being filled in the upward cycle with the pellets falling away at the shear point. Similarly, the pelican beak distributes the product across the full width of the rotor.

The valve consists of two flaps connected by counterweights or spring loaded spindles, which are operated by means of a motor driven cam. The cam alternately opens each flap allowing materials to pass through the separate chambers in batch form and thereby ensuring an airlock. After cam release, the counterweights (or springs), return each flap to the upper (sealed) position and are designed and sized so that a clapping action at the flaps is obtained, aiding material flow and preventing build up at the seal plate. The unit is suitable for pressure differentials of up to 500mm W.G. This can be increased with special features. A fabricated steel body caters for sizes and specials that fall outside the standard 150, 200, 250 and 300mm cast iron body range as well as offering stainless steel construction. Optional hardened steel flaps and inlets can help prolong the valve life in particularly arduous or abrasive applications.
