ESCACID-40 (Pantoprazole Sodium 40 mg tablets) is an anti-ulcer medication which comes under the group of medications called Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI). ESCACID-40 (Pantoprazole Sodium 40 mg tablets) contains the generic medicine Pantoprazole sodium 40 mg per tablet. Pantoprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor. Like other PPIs, Pantoprazole exerts its pharmacodynamic properties by binding to the proton pump (h+, k+ -adenosine triphosphatase) in the parietal cells of the stomach. ESCACID-40 is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd), healing of erosive esophagitis and zollinger-ellison syndrome. It produces faster pain relief, ulcer healing and greater efficacy in oesophageal reflux disease. Since it is having a lower affinity for cytochrome p-450 than other proton pump inhibitors, there is less chance for drug interactions with other drugs including carbamazepine, cisapride, cyclosporine, digoxin, warfarin, e.t.c. And it has been an added advantage for its use in patients. ESCACID-40 in longer use or higher doses may cause bone fractures and these can be prevented by the intake of calcium and vitamin d supplements. It is contraindicated in patients those who are hypersensitive to pantoprazole or to any other PPI and with severe liver problems. Recommended dose: one tablet of ESCACID-40 to be taken once daily for upto 8 weeks.
